Influence of Finish Rolling Temperature and Molybdenum Addition on Strengthening of Low Carbon Niobium Steels-A Computational and Experimental Study

Arnab Chakraborty et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of molybdenum on grain size and strengthening effect in low carbon microalloyed steels through experiments and computational methods. Under specific conditions, the addition of molybdenum can significantly improve the yield strength of the steel and form ultrafine ferrite grains.

Carbide precipitation and coarsening kinetics in low carbon and low alloy steel during quenching and subsequently tempering

D. Ning et al.

Summary: The study examined the as-quenched microstructure of a low carbon and low alloy steel using transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, and investigated the coarsening kinetics of the cementite in the tempered steel. It was found that the coarsening rate of the cementite during tempering is controlled by the volume diffusion of Mn, Cr, and Mo, with Cr being more effective in retarding the coarsening process. More stable M7C3 type carbide transforms partially from the cementite and retains smaller size during prolonged tempering.

New Ms-formula for exact microstructural prediction of modern 3rd generation AHSS chemistries

Simone Kaar et al.

Summary: Precise adjustment of microstructural constituents, especially the volume fraction of retained austenite, is crucial for 3rd generation AHSS. Avoiding the formation of fresh martensite during final cooling is also essential to maintain mechanical properties. A new formula for predicting martensite start temperature with a wide composition range is proposed to accurately determine M-s temperature for different C contents.
