Characterization of as-cast microstructure of aluminum foams by melt foaming method

Lei Hu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the morphology of primary alpha-Al grains in the cell-wall matrix of aluminum foams is smaller than those in the pore-free layer, and CaAl4 does not exist in the melt.

Study on Deformation of Closed-Cell Aluminum Foam in Different Solid-Liquid-Gas Coexisting State

Zhiyong Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that the most suitable temperature for the deformation of closed-cell aluminum foam in solid-liquid-gas coexisting state was approximately 635 degrees C. The multi-grain cell wall and small cell size were found to be helpful for deformation. During deformation, inter-granular solidification microstructure and primary alpha-Al grains melted into liquid, improving the thixotropy of the cell wall. The deformation was affected by the types of cell walls and cell size.

Insight into solidification microstructure control by trace TiCN-TiB2 particles for yielding fine-tuned nanoprecipitates in a hypoeutectic Al-Si-Mg alloy

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: A novel hypoeutectic Al-10Si-Mg alloy was designed with high Mg addition and trace co-incorporation of innovative in situ TiCN-TiB2 particles coupled with a direct post-solidification isothermal low-temperature stabilization treatment. This approach effectively improved the strength and ductility of the alloy.
