This study systematically evaluates the effects of Zr, Ni, and Zr7Ni10 addition on the phase composition, microstructure, and hydrogen storage properties of Ti23V40Mn37 alloy. It is found that Zr addition positively affects activation property and hydrogen absorption capacity, while reducing hydrogen desorption property. On the other hand, Ni addition has the opposite effect. Under the synergistic effect of Zr and Ni, the alloy with Zr7Ni10 addition shows excellent comprehensive hydrogen storage properties of fewer activation cycles and better hydrogen desorption property.
Alloying is applied to improve the activation and hydrogen desorption properties of Ti-V-Mn alloys in this study. The effects of Zr, Ni, and Zr7Ni10 addition on phase composition, microstructure, and hydrogen storage properties of Ti23V40Mn37 alloy are evaluated systematically. The BCC phases have different lattice parameters in alloy with different composition. The proportion of C14 Laves phase increases by alloying and reaches a maximum when the additive is Zr7Ni10. Zr addition has a positive influence on activation property and hydrogen absorption capacity, nevertheless, it reduces hydrogen desorption property. Ni addition has an opposite effect on hydrogen storage properties comparing with Zr addition. Under the synergetic effect of Zr and Ni, the alloy with Zr7Ni10 addition has an excellent comprehensive hydrogen storage properties of less activation cycles and better hydrogen desorption property.
