A detailed analysis on the microstructure and compressive properties of selective laser melted Ti6Al4V lattice structures

Jinguo Ge et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the fabrication and properties of Ti6Al4V octahedron lattice structures. The study reveals that vacuum annealing can improve the compressive properties of the samples and enhance their strength. Additionally, the microstructural analysis shows that vacuum annealing leads to the transformation of martensites and the formation of nano-particle precipitation and dislocation.

Graded functionality obtained in NiTi shape memory alloy via a repetitive laser processing strategy

Y. Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the manufacturing of functionally graded NiTi alloy using a repetitive laser processing strategy, achieving a highest martensitic transformation interval of 126.7 +/- 0.4℃. The graded functionality displayed as continuous increase in mechanical recoverable strain with applied strain, while the microstructure gradient showed increased grain size, amount of B19' phase, and variation of interior defects along the gradient direction.

Effect of laser energy density on the evolution of Ni4Ti3 precipitate and property of NiTi shape memory alloys prepared by selective laser melting

Jie Gan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of laser energy density on the formation and evolution of Ni4Ti3 precipitate in NiTi shape memory alloys fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM). By tailoring the Ni4Ti3 precipitates through laser energy density, the mechanical properties of the NiTi samples were optimized, leading to an ultrahigh compressive strength of 3053.45 MPa, tensile strength of 801.7 MPa, and elongation of 7.64%.

Bulk NiTiCuCo shape memory alloys with ultra-high thermal and superelastic cyclic stability

Aslan Ahadi et al.

Summary: In this study, an unprecedented thermal stability is reported in bulk coarse-grained Ti54Ni3.7Cu123Co2 after aging at 600 degrees C for 1 h. A thermomechanical processing route is proposed to achieve a uniform nanocrystalline microstructure with embedded Ti2Cu precipitates, leading to improved superelastic cyclic stability.
