A strong and ductile medium Mn steel manufactured via ultrafast heating process

Pengyu Wen et al.

Summary: Ultrafast heating (UFH) followed by immediate cooling was employed to anneal cold rolled 7wt% Mn steel, resulting in a significant increase in yield strength and work hardening capacity. The high density dislocations preserved after UFH, microstructural refinement, and precipitation strengthening are attributed to the substantial strengthening effect observed. Furthermore, the sustainable work hardening is believed to be influenced by the successive TRIP effect during deformation.

Manganese controlled transformation and twinning of the nanoscale austenite in low-carbon-medium-Mn steel

W. Y. Xue et al.

Summary: A Fe-10.5Mn-0.06C steel, fabricated via quenching and partitioning processing, exhibited different mechanical properties and deformation characteristics at various temperatures. The steel showed three-stage work-hardening behavior at low temperatures and two-stage work-hardening curves at higher temperatures, which were associated with the interactions between twinning, transformation, and dislocations.

Intercritical annealing to achieve a positive strain-rate sensitivity of mechanical properties and suppression of macroscopic plastic instabilities in multi-phase medium-Mn steels

J. T. Benzing et al.

Summary: This study investigated the high strain-rate tensile properties of a cold-rolled medium-Mn steel with a multi-phase microstructure and positive strain-rate sensitivity. By increasing the annealing time at a specific intercritical annealing temperature, the volume fraction of UFG austenite was increased, leading to the suppression of Lüders bands and PLC bands using a unique microstructural combination.

Processing Q&P steels by hot-metal gas forming: Influence of local cooling rates on the properties and microstructure of a 3rd generation AHSS

Sven Winter et al.

Summary: Tube hydroforming combined with quenching & partitioning treatment (Q&P treatment) was used in this study to investigate the impact of different cooling rates on local microstructural changes and mechanical properties in complex shaped parts. The results showed that local cooling rates significantly influenced the final mechanical properties of the workpiece.
