Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prognostic Factors for Early Recurrence in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma After Curative-Intent Resection

Woo Jin Choi et al.

Summary: This systematic review identifies prognostic factors for early recurrence and 24-month disease-free survival after curative-intent resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). Multiple tumors, microvascular invasion, macrovascular invasion, lymph node metastasis, and R1 resection were associated with increased risk for early recurrence or reduced 24-month disease-free survival. Receipt of adjuvant chemo/radiation therapy was associated with improved outcomes. Cirrhosis, sex, and HBV status were not associated with early recurrence or 24-month disease-free survival.

Combined arterial and delayed enhancement patterns of MRI assist in prognostic prediction for intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC)

Kai-pu Jin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the value of MR delayed enhancement pattern in predicting the postoperative prognosis of intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC), finding that the uniform enhancement pattern in delayed MRI was an independent optimal prognostic factor for IMCCs, leading to higher survival rates and increased detection of patients with good prognosis.

Staging Chronic Hepatitis B Related Liver Fibrosis with a Fractional Order Calculus Diffusion Model

Ruofan Sheng et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical potential of the non-Gaussian fractional order calculus diffusion model in staging liver fibrosis. The diffusion coefficient, fractional order parameter, and apparent diffusion coefficient were found to be significantly correlated with fibrosis stages. The combined DWI-derived index offered the best diagnostic efficacy for fibrosis evaluation. This study highlights the importance of accurately staging liver fibrosis and suggests a reliable tool for its assessment.

Combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocarcinoma: MRI features correlated with tumor biomarkers and prognosis

Changwu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the correlation between MRI features and biomarkers, as well as prognostic factors for RFS and OS in cHCC-CCA patients. Results showed that cHCC-CCA imaging features were not correlated with AFP or CA19-9 levels. Age, CA19-9 > 37 U/ml, arterial phase peritumoral enhancement, and delayed enhancement were identified as independent predictors of poor RFS. Arterial phase peripheral enhancement was found to be an independent predictor of poor OS.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: MRI texture signature as predictive biomarkers of immunophenotyping and survival

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: Clinical evidence indicates that the response to immune checkpoint blockade is influenced by the immune status in the tumor microenvironment. This study demonstrates that MRI texture analysis can predict the immunophenotyping (IP) and overall survival (OS) of ICC patients. Inflamed immunophenotyping is associated with better prognosis and higher survival rates compared to non-inflamed immunophenotyping in ICC patients.

Multi-scale and multi-parametric radiomics of gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MRI predicts microvascular invasion and outcome in patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma ≤ 5 cm

Huan-Huan Chong et al.

Summary: The study successfully developed radiomics-based nomograms for predicting preoperative microvascular invasion and recurrence-free survival in patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma <= 5 cm. Radiomics values, peritumoral enhancement, and absent capsule enhancement were identified as independent risk factors for MVI, while age, histologic MVI, alkaline phosphatase, and alanine aminotransferase were independent predictors for recurrence. The nomograms showed high accuracy in predicting MVI and stratifying RFS.

Detection of Tumor Multifocality in Resectable Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma: Defining the Optimal Pre-operative Imaging Modality

Thomas L. Sutton et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the sensitivity of different cross-sectional imaging modalities for MTF in ICC and found that CT is inadequate for pre-operative diagnosis of MTF in resectable ICC. Liver-protocol MRI is recommended as the standard pre-operative imaging modality for non-metastatic ICC.

A Retrospective Study of Lenvatinib Monotherapy or Combined With Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 Antibody in the Treatment of Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma or Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma in China

Sihui Zhu et al.

Summary: In a real-world setting, Lenvatinib showed efficacy and safety in the treatment of Chinese patients with unresectable liver cancer, with significant improvements in median overall survival (mOS) and median progression-free survival (mPFS) compared to previous approaches. These findings support the use of Lenvatinib as a potential first-line medication for advanced liver tumors in this population.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: The Emerging Cornerstone in Cholangiocarcinoma Therapy?

Maria Gutierrez-Larranaga et al.

Summary: High expression levels of immune checkpoints in patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) are associated with worse clinical outcomes, suggesting immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) as potential therapeutic approaches. Combining different ICIs may enhance efficacy compared to monotherapy, and the combination of ICIs with other common therapies like chemotherapy shows promise for treating CCA patients.
