Forced hydrolysis of FeCl3 solutions in the presence of Cr3+ ions

Marko Robic et al.

Summary: Forced hydrolysis of FeCl3 solutions in the presence of Cr3+ ions without alkali addition showed significant effects on the precipitation process, resulting in changes in crystal structure and photocatalytic degradation performance. The presence of Cr3+ ions during the process influenced the transformation kinetics of beta-FeOOH to alpha-Fe2O3, leading to altered diffraction line intensities and formation of different particle shapes. Traces of Cr3+ ions were inferred to enter the tunnels of beta-FeOOH crystals and destabilize the crystal structure, ultimately affecting the growth of alpha-Fe2O3 crystals.
