Benefits and Trade-Offs of Smallholder Sweet Potato Cultivation as a Pathway toward Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

Nouman Afzal et al.

Summary: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its 17 SDGs, will guide national development plans up to 2030. Goals such as No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Affordable and Clean Energy are crucial for addressing the needs of the poor. Crops like sweet potato have untapped potential to improve food, nutrition, and energy security for smallholder farmers, but further research is needed to fully harness this potential.

Developing Conversion Factors of LCIA Methods for Comparison of LCA Results in the Construction Sector

Yahong Dong et al.

Summary: The study proposes an effective method of conversion factors to convert the results of 8 LCIA methods for 14 impact categories, aiming to address the inconsistency problem in LCIA methods. It reveals that the differences between LCIA methods are mainly caused by characterization methods rather than metrics. High correlations are observed for impact categories including climate change, acidification, eutrophication, and resource depletion.

Trusted land: land deals, climate vulnerability and adaptation in Northern Mozambique

Carla Gomes

Summary: This paper examines the impact of resettlement on the vulnerability of rural communities in Mozambique, highlighting how climate events affect perceptions of fairness amongst resettled populations and constrain their adaptive capabilities. The findings raise concerns about the misrecognition of adaptation practices exacerbating household vulnerability to environmental change and food insecurity, hindering the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals.

Precarious employment, unemployment and their association with health-related outcomes in 35 European countries: a cross-sectional study

Nuria Matilla-Santander et al.

Summary: This study compared the health status of workers in highly precarious employment with unemployed individuals in 35 European countries, finding that both high precarious employment and unemployment can be similarly health damaging. It is suggested that employment conditions should be better monitored to prevent the negative health consequences of precarious employment.
