Anti-coking freeze-dried NiMgAl catalysts for dry and steam reforming of methane

Zahra Taherian et al.

Summary: In this study, a surface defect-promoted Ni catalyst supported on Mg/Al hydrotalcite via a freeze-dried method was synthesized by adding samarium, leading to an increase in oxygen vacancies and high dispersion of active sites. The samarium-promoted NiMgAl catalyst showed superior catalytic activity and stability in dry and steam reforming of methane due to the scaffold structure with surface defects and oxygen vacancies, which inhibit sintering and enhance mass transportation.

Double-Site Doping of a V Promoter on Nix-V-MgAl Catalysts for the DRM Reaction: Simultaneous Effect on CH4 and CO2 Activation

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: A series of V-doped Ni-x-V-MgAl catalysts were prepared and applied in the dry reforming of methane. The addition of V promoter enhanced the catalyst activity by improving the dispersion of Ni sites and increasing their electron cloud density, leading to improved CH4 cracking and CO2 activation abilities. In situ CO2 infrared spectrometry verified that the enhanced CO2 activation ability of the catalyst suppressed carbon deposits during the DRM reaction, achieving excellent stability in long-term testing.
