Macromolecular Crowding as a Tool to Screen Anti-fibrotic Drugs: The Scar-in-a-Jar System Revisited

Nataly Puerta Cavanzo et al.

Summary: The optimal crowder for screening anti-fibrotic drugs is PVP40, based on comparisons with other macromolecular crowders. Various concentrations of Imatinib, Galunisertib, Omipalisib, and Nintedanib were tested in the presence of PVP40 to assess their effects on collagen deposition and myofibroblast formation.

Integrated Bioactive Scaffold with Polydeoxyribonucleotide and Stem-Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles for Kidney Regeneration

Kyoung-Won Ko et al.

Summary: The study developed a porous pneumatic microextrusion composite scaffold functionalized with bioactive compounds and mesenchymal stem-cell-derived extracellular vesicles, which significantly improved kidney tissue regeneration and function. The combination of PDRN and TI-EVs showed a synergistic effect in regenerative processes, enhancing glomerular regeneration and restoration of kidney function. This integrated bioactive scaffold provides an advanced tissue engineering platform for kidney tissue regeneration.

Multifunctional Scaffolds and Synergistic Strategies in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

Nicolas Muzzio et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for organ replacements due to an aging population and the loss of tissues and organs have led to the development of new approaches in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The extracellular matrix plays a crucial role in guiding the design and fabrication of scaffolds and biomaterials. Multifunctional scaffolds and biomaterials, combined with various strategies, are being studied for tissue regeneration in TERM.
