Design, fabrication, and characterization of a facile superhydrophobic and superoleophilic mesh-based membrane for selective oil-water separation

Seyedabbas Rasouli et al.

Summary: A superhydrophobic and superoleophilic stainless steel mesh-based membrane was fabricated using a one-stage dip-coating technique, varying the size of silane alkyl chains and the ratio of micro-to-nanoparticles for optimal water contact angle. The long-chain silane resulted in higher WCA, while increasing the ratio of nanoparticles to microparticles enhanced the hydrophobicity of the membrane.

Synthesis and performance evaluation of a magnetic biocoagulant in the removal of reactive black 5 dye in aqueous medium

Carolina Sayury Miyashiro et al.

Summary: A biocoagulant synthesized from iron oxide nanoparticles and Moringa oleifera Lam extract was tested for removal of colour and dye concentration in synthetic textile wastewater, achieving removal rates of 93.7% for colour and 96.2% for dye after 20 minutes of magnetic sedimentation. Reuse tests showed the biocoagulant and resulting sludge could be used for three consecutive cycles with minimal reduction in efficiency.

The hydrophilic polypropylene/poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) hollow fiber membrane with bimodal microporous structure prepared by melt-spinning and stretching

Dajun Luo et al.

Summary: The green and sustainable preparation of high-performance polymeric hollow fiber membranes has been achieved by regulating the bimodal microporous structure, significantly improving porosity and pure water flux. The small micropores in the bimodal structure had lower pore sizes, while the large micropores had increased pore sizes, similar to the variation tendency of lamellae in the hollow fibers.

Ultra-robust superwetting hierarchical membranes constructed by coordination complex networks for oily water treatment

Yuanyuan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study developed a superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic membrane using amino-functionalized polyhedral oligosiloxane/proanthocyanidins (POSS-NH2/PC) surface coating and metal-phenol networks (MPN). The membrane exhibited high stability in strong acidic or alkaline conditions and achieved over 99.0% oil rejections in oil-in-water emulsion separation. The membrane also showed excellent anti-oil fouling performance after three cycles of oil/water separation, indicating potential for design of versatile superwetting materials.
