Lithium zinc magnesium silicate glass ceramics were prepared by conventional melt-quenching technique and subsequently converted to glass-ceramics by a controlled nucleation and crystallization process. The nucleation and crystallization temperatures were determined by DSC curve. Crystalline phases were identified using powder X-ray diffraction technique and microstructures were observed by SEM images. The effects of heat treatment temperature on some thermo-physical properties, such as coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), bend strength and Vickers micro-hardness of glass-ceramics were investigated in detail. The CTE, bend strength and micro-hardness of the optimized glass-ceramic is found to be 16.64 x 10(-6) degrees C-1, 121.23 MPa and 6.65 GPa, respectively. The test on sealing to SUS310S stainless steel was also carried out as a possible application in filtration device to purify the dust-contained high temperature exhaust. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V.
