Calibration-Free Complementary Relationship Estimates Terrestrial Evapotranspiration Globally

Ning Ma et al.

Summary: The study utilized a calibration-free CR model, driven solely by routine meteorological data, to estimate global ET rates during 1982-2016. The modeled ET showed good agreement with measured data and water balance-derived results, demonstrating competitive performance which could be useful in large-scale hydrological and climate simulations.

A Graphical Interpretation of the Rescaled Complementary Relationship for Evapotranspiration

Richard D. Crago et al.

Summary: The wet-surface evaporation equations related to the Penman equation can be graphically represented on vapor pressure versus temperature graphs, using the Complementary Relationship between actual and apparent potential evaporation. The formulation provides a simple and intuitive geometric form allowing for a graphical estimate of latent heat flux. The approach works well with monthly data from multiple sites, even with a constant parameter value used for all sites, demonstrating good performance compared to other formulations.

Summary: The paper evaluates the Generalized Complementary Principle (GCP) proposed by Han and Tian (2020), finding that while arguments in favor of the GCP are worth serious consideration, they ultimately remain unconvincing.
