Review of drivers and threats to coastal groundwater quality in China

Dongmei Han et al.

Summary: With rapid socio-economic development, coastal areas in China have become one of the most economically dynamic regions globally. However, the quality of coastal groundwater is threatened by climate change and human activities, posing significant environmental and resource management challenges. Groundwater pollution from various sources presents major water quality issues, indicating the urgent need for improved monitoring and contamination control measures.

A two-step approach for arsenic removal by exploiting an autochthonous Delftia sp. BAs29 and neutralized red mud

Rimi Biswas et al.

Summary: This study identified a highly efficient As (III) transforming bacteria and neutralized red mud adsorption of transformed arsenate as a potential method for arsenic removal from groundwater. Experimental conditions such as influent As (III) concentrations and flow rates were found to impact the arsenic adsorption process; the adsorption efficiency was significantly influenced by solution pH, with optimal conditions resulting in a maximum monolayer capacity for adsorption of As (V) at pH 4.0 and a contact time of 30 min.

Summary: The study suggests a negative correlation between fluoride and intelligence. Additionally, interactions between fluoride and mitochondrial function-related SNP-sets, genes, and pathways may also contribute to high intelligence loss.

Mobilization of Arsenic and Other Naturally Occurring Contaminants during Managed Aquifer Recharge: A Critical Review

Sarah Fakhreddine et al.

Summary: Population growth and climate variability have increased the need to enhance freshwater security and diversify water supplies, leading to the global use of managed aquifer recharge (MAR). However, the introduction of recharge water may alter geochemical and hydrological conditions in receiving aquifers, potentially mobilizing toxic naturally occurring contaminants and threatening human and ecosystem health.

Impact of geology and anthropogenic activities over the water quality with emphasis on fluoride in water scarce Lalitpur district of Bundelkhand region, India

Neeraj Pant et al.

Summary: A study in the Bundelkhand region of India revealed that groundwater quality is influenced by rock weathering and anthropogenic activities, with fluoride concentration having a greater impact on infants and children. The origin of groundwater is local precipitation with evaporative enrichment, and variations in ion concentration along groundwater flow direction indicate control by hydrogeological attributes.
