Numerical simulation of wave interaction with porous structures

Ebrahim Jafari et al.

Summary: The study presented a more realistic simulation by combining FVM-VOF-DEM numerical methods to model wave interactions with porous media, achieving the reshaping of porous soil structures and fluid flow interactions. The developed model accurately simulated free surface and flow passing through porous media, as well as breakwater deformation, as shown by comparisons with laboratory measurements.

Erosion-deposition dynamics and long distance propagation of granular avalanches

Summary: The net erosion-deposition rate of an avalanche is crucial in determining its growth or decay, and can also lead to secondary avalanches. Additionally, the exchange of particles is found to be fundamental in the propagation of such avalanches.

Diffusion Wave Approximation of Depth-Averaged Flow Interaction with Porous Media

Naveed Ul Hassan Bhat et al.

Summary: A two-dimensional diffusive wave framework was proposed to model the interaction between flow through and outside porous media using a depth-integrated parabolic model suitable for field-scale simulations with zero temporal/convective accelerations. The effects of bed shear from bathymetry, roughness, and granular media properties were consolidated into a single hydraulic diffusivity coefficient. The framework was validated with standard analytical solutions and small-scale experimental results, demonstrating its capability for real-time simulation with a synthetic test case of irregular ground surfaces.
