Coupling of a subsurface drainage model with a soil reservoir model to simulate drainage discharge and drain flow start

Hocine Henine et al.

Summary: This study presents a modeling approach that accurately simulates subsurface drainage discharge and predicts drain flow start times. Field measurements at a site in France demonstrate the model's ability to simulate drainage discharge and accurately predict the start of drain flow.

The Future of Sensitivity Analysis: An essential discipline for systems modeling and policy support

Saman Razavi et al.

Summary: Sensitivity analysis is becoming an essential part of mathematical modeling, with untapped potential benefits for both mechanistic and data-driven modeling as well as decision making. This perspective paper revisits the current status of SA and outlines research challenges in various areas, emphasizing the need for structuring and standardizing SA as a discipline, tapping into its potential for systems modeling, addressing computational burdens, progressing SA in the context of machine learning, clarifying its relationship with uncertainty quantification, and evolving its use in decision making. An outlook for the future of SA is provided to better serve science and society.

Robustness of a parsimonious subsurface drainage model at the French national scale

Alexis Jeantet et al.

Summary: The implementation of drainage systems on agricultural plots in France accounts for 9% of arable soils, highlighting the need for accurate hydrological modeling in the face of climate change. The study assesses the capability of the SIDRA-RU hydrological drainage model to represent the variability in pedoclimatic conditions and demonstrates its utility as a long-term management tool. Results show that the model accurately simulates drainage discharge on different soil textures, indicating its potential for managing French drained soil diversity in the long run.

Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on Tile Discharge and Nitrogen Yield Using the DRAINMOD Model

Golmar Golmohammadi et al.

Summary: The study used DRAINMOD model to assess the impact of future climatic change on depth to water table, tile flow and associated nitrate loss in an agricultural field in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Results indicated that under future climates, there will be increases in tile flows, evapotranspiration and nitrate losses. These findings suggest that climate change will have a significant effect on field hydrology and water quality in tile-drained agricultural regions.
