A comparative evaluation of the continuous and event-based modelling approaches for identifying critical source areas for sediment and phosphorus losses

Narayan Kumar Shrestha et al.

Summary: Comparative assessment of continuous and event-based hydrologic and water quality models for identifying critical source areas (CSAs) highlights the importance of variable source area (VSA) integration in the models. Results indicate better matching in field CSA potential for sediment and phosphorus with VSA integrated models, particularly in autumn season. Furthermore, qualitative validation suggests slightly better performance of SWAT models compared to AGNPS models, but more detailed field observations are needed for further confirmation.

Refined land-cover classification mapping using a multi-scale transformation method from remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle, and field surveys in Sanjiangyuan National Park, China

Shuai Han et al.

Summary: This study developed a multi-scale transformation method integrating RS, UAV, and field surveys to improve the accuracy of RLCM classification. The spatial-temporal analysis showed that the overall ecological coverage has been improving from 1990 to 2017, driven by government policy and climate change.

New framework for natural-artificial transport paths and hydrological connectivity analysis in an agriculture-intensive catchment

Cheng Sun et al.

Summary: A new framework combining graph theory and connectivity indexes is proposed to analyze the impacts of human activities on transport paths and drainage areas in an agriculture-intensive catchment. The results show that with the development of ditch construction, hydrological transport paths become shorter and more fragmented. Key ditch segments are identified by connectivity indexes, providing recommendations for future planning.

Impact of Land Use Change on Non-Point Source Pollution in a Semi-Arid Catchment under Rapid Urbanisation in Bolivia

Benjamin Gossweiler et al.

Summary: The study assessed changes in pollution pressure on the Rocha River in Bolivia from diffuse sources using potential non-point pollution indexes (PNPI) for 1997 and 2017. The results showed that human settlements, runoff, and distance to river network are significant factors in generating pollution.

Application of Optimization Algorithms in Clusters

Ruby Srivastava

Summary: The structural characterization of clusters or nanoparticles is essential for understanding their properties, and a combination of experiments and theoretical investigations is needed to provide a complete picture. Optimization algorithms play a crucial role in solving geometric isomers in clusters, with various techniques and potentials used to describe the bonding in different types of clusters.

Present and potential future critical source areas of nonpoint source pollution: a case of the Nakdong River watershed, South Korea

Mijin Seo et al.

Summary: Identifying critical source areas is crucial in managing nonpoint source pollution, and this study investigated how climate change can impact the identification of these areas in the Nakdong River watershed. Results revealed no significant differences between present and future scenarios in the spatial distribution of critical source areas, mainly located near the Nakdong River mainstream.

Contrasting effects of climate and LULC change on blue water resources at varying temporal and spatial scales

Xiaojie Li et al.

Summary: The study emphasizes the importance of understanding the contributions of climate and land use/cover changes on blue water resources, with varying impacts at different spatial scales. In the Yellow River Basin, climate change plays a dominant role (>92%) in influencing blue water resources, while land use change is significant in controlling water yields in different sub-basins.

Optimum Detailed Standards to Control Non-Point Source Pollution Priority Management Areas: Centered on Highland Agriculture Watershed

Jinsun Kim et al.

Summary: The Ministry of Environment in Korea aims to reduce non-point source pollution and improve soil water management by expanding NPS priority management areas. Research findings show that factors like altitude, slope, and field area ratio have a significant impact on water quality due to suspended solids during rainfall. These results are valuable for establishing detailed standards, expanding NPS priority management areas, and reducing NPS pollution in Korea.
