Synthesis and anticancer activity of new coumarin-3-carboxylic acid derivatives as potential lactate transport inhibitors

Hong Ji et al.

Summary: Lactate plays a crucial role in tumor biology, and inhibiting lactate transport is considered a promising therapeutic strategy for cancer treatment. In this study, new lactate transport inhibitors were synthesized and tested, with one compound showing the most potent cytotoxic activity by decreasing MCT1 expression and suppressing glucose and lactate metabolism in cancer cells. This research provides a good starting point for the development of lactate transport inhibitors as new anticancer agents.
