Paternal exposure todi-n-butyl-phthalateinduced developmental toxicity in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Jingying Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that paternal exposure to 0.6 and 1.8 mg/L of DBP in zebrafish resulted in malformations such as edema and a bent trunk in offspring, decreased heart rate and spontaneous contraction, and disrupted migration of primordial germ cells. The axial skeleton was affected in some F1 adults in the 1.8 mg/L DBP exposure group.

Exposure and tiered ecological risk assessment of phthalate esters in the surface water of Poyang Lake, China

Shunhao Ai et al.

Summary: Phthalate esters (PAEs) are widely produced and used in China as endocrine disruptors, with a significant amount entering aquatic systems annually. A study in Poyang Lake found that concentrations of PAEs nearly doubled in the dry season compared to the wet season, with DBP and DEHP being the most abundant congeners. The ecological risk assessment revealed that while DEP and BBP posed no risk in the lake, DBP had a potential risk and DEHP had an unacceptable risk that requires further action.

The oxidative stress responses caused by phthalate acid esters increases mRNA abundance of base excision repair (BER) genes in vivo and in vitro

Chunjiao Lu et al.

Summary: Exposure to phthalate esters (PAEs) can induce developmental abnormalities in zebrafish larvae and inhibit cell viability in HEK293T cells. Additionally, it results in the accumulation of ROS and the inhibition of SOD activation in vivo and in vitro.

Bioconcentration and developmental neurotoxicity of novel brominated flame retardants, hexabromobenzene and pentabromobenzene in zebrafish

Xiangping Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the flame retardants hexabromobenzene (HBB) and pentabromobenzene (PBB) were found to exhibit developmental neurotoxicity in zebrafish larvae, affecting parameters related to central nervous system development. However, they did not cause developmental toxicity. These findings provide important insights for future toxicological research and risk assessment of novel brominated flame retardants.

Summary: Exposure to phthalates impaired the neurodevelopment and neurochemicals in zebrafish embryos, with individual phthalates showing varied effects on behaviors and gene expression profiles. Further mechanistic studies are needed to fully understand the relationship between phthalate exposure and neurotoxicity.

Triclosan affects motor function in zebrafish larva by inhibiting ache and syn2a genes

Narasimha Pullaguri et al.

Summary: The widespread use of triclosan in personal care products as an antimicrobial agent is causing alarming tissue-bioaccumulation, including in the human brain. This study hypothesized that sublethal triclosan concentrations could alter motor neuron structure and function in zebrafish embryos. The results suggest that prolonged exposure to triclosan could have potential effects on vertebrate nervous systems.

Summary: 4-EATC, a major intermediate product during tetracycline degradation, was studied for ecotoxicity in zebrafish embryos. Low concentrations did not significantly affect oxidative stress, while high concentrations led to oxidative damage and increased apoptosis rates in embryonic cells.

Summary: The study found that microplastics enhance the toxicity of phenanthrene and have a synergistic effect. Accumulation of both microplastics and phenanthrene increased with prolonged exposure time, and the combined exposure group showed more severe effects.
