Drug delivery system based on magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles coated with (polyvinyl alcohol-zinc/aluminium-layered double hydroxide-sorafenib)

Mona Ebadi et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the structural, physicochemical, morphological, and magnetic properties of magnetic drug nanoparticles and their potential in cancer treatment. The coated Fe3O4 magnetite nanoparticles were found to be more effective than sorafenib alone against liver cancer cells, while displaying no cytotoxicity against fibroblasts. These results suggest that the coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles could be a promising drug delivery carrier for biomedical applications.

Analysis of the long-term effectiveness of biochar immobilization remediation on heavy metal contaminated soil and the potential environmental factors weakening the remediation effect: A review

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: Biochar has been widely used in the remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil with excellent immobilization effect, but the effectiveness may decrease over time. Abiotic and biotic factors could significantly weaken the immobilization effect of biochar. Further research is needed on longer-term field experiments and development of modified biochar with more stable immobilization effect.

Effect of aging on stabilization of Cd and Ni by biochars and enzyme activities in a historically contaminated alkaline agricultural soil simulated with wet-dry and freeze-thaw cycling

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that biochars can reduce the phytoavailability of cadmium and nickel in soil under different aging conditions, with a more significant reduction in nickel under wet-dry aging conditions. The addition of biochars decreased the distribution of cadmium in the acid soluble and reducible fractions in soil, and also had an impact on soil enzyme activities, particularly reducing catalase activity under wet-dry aging conditions.

Composition optimization of activated carbon-iron oxide nanocomposite for effective removal of Cr(VI)ions

Jaskiran Kaur et al.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites of activated carbon and iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized in different mass ratios and evaluated for Cr(VI) ion removal. The optimized composition of the nanocomposite showed efficient removal of Cr(VI) ions and environmentally friendly characteristics. The magnetic properties and reducing characteristics of activated charcoal made the nanocomposites effective for Cr(VI) ion removal, magnetic separation, and regeneration.

Iron oxide loaded biochar/attapulgite composites derived camellia oleifera shells as a novel bio-adsorbent for highly efficient removal of Cr(VI)

Shiquan Sun et al.

Summary: Fe-BC/A, a novel iron oxide loaded biochar/attapulgite composite synthesized from camellia oleifera shells, attapulgite, and ferric chloride, exhibits high adsorption capacity for Cr(VI) and excellent tolerance to coexisting ions. The adsorption behavior fits well with the pseudo second-order model and Freundlich model, showing great adsorption efficiency under various conditions.

Remediation of fluoride contaminated soil with nano-hydroxyapatite amendment: Response of soil fluoride bioavailability and microbial communities

Chun-dan Gan et al.

Summary: NHAP amendment effectively reduces water-soluble fluoride levels and increases available phosphorus content in soil, potentially through the formation of insoluble CaF2 and ion exchange in NHAP. Additionally, NHAP amendment can decrease fluoride accumulation in wheat plants, indicating its potential as a promising remediation strategy for acidic soils contaminated with fluoride.

Effect of gut microbiota on in vitro bioaccessibility of heavy metals and human health risk assessment from ingestion of contaminated soils*

Naiyi Yin et al.

Summary: The study found that gut microbiota plays an important role in the bioaccessibility of heavy metals in different age groups, with significant differences in metal exposure risks between adults and children. The bioaccessibility of heavy metals is primarily influenced by the total concentrations of metals in soils, followed by soil pH and active Fe/Mn oxide.

A comparative study for phosphate adsorption on amorphous FeOOH and goethite (α-FeOOH): An investigation of relationship between the surface chemistry and structure

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study compared the phosphate adsorption behavior of amorphous FeOOH and well-crystallized α-FeOOH, finding that the amorphous form exhibited higher phosphate uptake due to more adsorption reactive sites. Analysis through XPS and XANES confirmed the iron valence and structure in the amorphous FeOOH leading to the higher phosphate adsorption observed.
