Defects on CoS2-x: Tuning Redox Reactions for Sustainable Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Jiahui Ji et al.

Summary: A CoS2-x mixed with Fe2+ system was developed for the sustained release of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) through ultrasonic treatment, effectively degrading various organic pollutants. This system can efficiently degrade organic pollutants for up to 30 days, surpassing the current CuPx system by a significant margin.

Interfacial Molecular Fractionation on Ferrihydrite Reduces the Photochemical Reactivity of Dissolved Organic Matter

Zhe Wang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the adsorption of organic matter on mineral surfaces reduces the photoproduction of reactive oxygen species. This molecular fractionation affects the molecular components of DOM and significantly reduces the photoreactive fractions of DOM in water.

Benzophenone-3 degradation via UV/H2O2 and UV/persulfate reactions

Young-Min Lee et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the UV/PS reaction is more efficient in degrading BP3 in water compared to the UV/H2O2 reaction, with degradation efficiency increasing with higher dosage of H2O2 and persulfate. BP3 degradation primarily occurs at pH 6 and is influenced by water components such as HCO3-, NO3-, Cl-, Br- ions, as well as humic acid.

New insight into photodegradation mechanisms, kinetics and health effects of p-nitrophenol by ozonation in polluted water

Ning Wang et al.

Summary: Theoretical calculation was used to investigate the aqueous-phase decomposition process of p-NP initiated by O-3, proposing possible reaction pathways for the oxidative degradation. Results show that ozone can completely initiate the oxidation of p-NP under natural conditions, but at a slower rate compared to the reaction by OH center dot. Under UV radiation, dissolved ozone interacts with water to produce active radicals that significantly improve the removal efficiency of p-NP.

Potentiation of lethal and sub-lethal effects of benzophenone and oxybenzone by UV light in zebrafish embryos

Yueyang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that benzophenone and oxybenzone had lower LC50 values in zebrafish embryos, and UV light significantly increased their toxicity. UV light induced a significant increase in hydroxyl radical formation, leading to exacerbated oxidative stress, and also delayed hatching of zebrafish embryos.
