Gas sensor towards n-butanol at low temperature detection: Hierarchical flower-like Ni-doped Co3O4 based on solvent-dependent synthesis

Pengfei Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical flower-like Ni-doped Co3O4 was successfully synthesized using a facile method, and the effect of ethanol/water ratio on samples was investigated. Gas sensors based on the prepared materials showed excellent performance, with the sensor using 5.3 mol% Ni-doped Co3O4 microflowers exhibiting the highest response towards n-butanol, as well as outstanding anti-humidity properties and long-term stability. The improved gas sensing properties were attributed to the unique hierarchical flower-like microstructure and optimized parameters resulting from the Ni doping.

Correlating 3D Surface Atomic Structure and Catalytic Activities of Pt Nanocrystals

Sungin Kim et al.

Summary: The surface atomic structures of synthesized Pt nanocrystals were found to be complex, with a high ratio of low-coordination surface atoms, reduced domain size of low-index facets, and various types of exposed high-index facets. The 3D maps of generalized coordination number ((CN) over bar) are directly correlated to catalytic activities, explaining the high catalytic performance of small Pt nanocrystals in important reactions.

Design and fabrication of spinel nanocomposites derived from perovskite hydroxides as gas sensing layer for volatile organic compounds detection

Kuan Tian et al.

Summary: Spinel oxide nanocomposites of Co2SnO4/SnO2 prepared by the co-precipitation method show significantly enhanced response and selectivity towards triethylamine (TEA) in gas sensing applications, with a response rate almost 4 times higher than Co3O4/SnO2. This enhanced performance is attributed to the catalytic ability of divalent Co2+ cation in the octahedral sites in the spinel structure, resulting in improved gas absorption and catalytic performance.
