Migration and emission behavior of arsenic and selenium in a circulating fluidized bed power plant burning arsenic/selenium-enriched coal

Yongda Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the migration and emission behavior of arsenic and selenium in a circulating fluidized bed power plant equipped with fabric filter and wet flue gas desulfurization system. The results showed arsenic was mainly enriched in bottom ash and fly ash, while selenium was mainly captured by fly ash. Limestone injection into furnace promoted the retention of arsenic and selenium in ash residues.

Temporal variation characteristics and source apportionment of metal elements in PM2.5 in urban Beijing during 2018-2019

Shuang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study conducted online monitoring of metal elements in PM2.5 with 1-h time resolution in Beijing from 22nd August 2018 to 21st August 2019 to explore high-resolution temporal variation characteristics and pollution sources. The results showed significant improvement in atmospheric metal pollution in Beijing, with main sources including soil and dust, vehicle non-exhaust emissions, biomass burning, etc., and different sources affecting the pollution in different seasons.

Integrated analysis of source-specific risks for PM2.5-bound metals in urban, suburban, rural, and industrial areas

Chin-Yu Hsu et al.

Summary: The study investigated PM2.5-bound metals in multiple locations in Taiwan and proposed a methodology for comparing metal elements across regions and prioritizing source contributions through health risk assessments. Differences in metal concentrations were found between industrial, urban, and rural areas. Industry-related metals were higher in industrial sites, while traffic-related metals were higher in urban areas. The rural area had good air quality.

Atmospheric Age Distribution of Primary and Secondary Inorganic Aerosols in a Polluted Atmosphere

Qi Ying et al.

Summary: The modified CMAQ model was used to study the evolution of atmospheric age distributions of primary and secondary aerosols in China during severe winter pollution episodes. The results showed that increases in aerosol concentrations were associated with increases in atmospheric age, with sulfate exhibiting a broad spatial distribution of aged particles and nitrate and ammonium ions having lower concentrations and limited spatial distributions. The model's potential applications include evaluating meteorological impacts on air quality and developing emission control strategies.

Non-exhaust traffic emissions: Sources, characterization, and mitigation measures

Amelia Piscitello et al.

Summary: Non-exhaust emissions (NEE) from road traffic, including particulate matter (PM) emitted from brake, tyre, road pavement and railway wear, as well as resuspension of road dust, account for up to 90% of total traffic-related PM emitted. Current lack of standardized monitoring approaches has hindered the establishment of international regulations to limit NEE, making mitigation and prevention strategies the main focus. While measures like street washing and switching to electric vehicles have shown short-term effectiveness in reducing PM levels, concerns remain regarding their long-term sustainability and the need for further research and improvement in existing technologies and strategies.
