Recent progress in defective TiO2 photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications

Zhenzi Li et al.

Summary: TiO2 nanomaterial photocatalysts have received extensive research interest for energy and environmental applications. The main challenges are the large bandgap and charge-carrier recombination. Recent reports suggest that engineering the defects of TiO2 can enhance photoresponse and promote charge separation efficiency. This review summarizes the synthesis strategies for defective TiO2, especially black TiO2 nanomaterials, and discusses their applications, defect types, characteristics, and photocatalytic mechanism in detail.

Molecular organization of the E. coli cellulose synthase macrocomplex

Justin F. Acheson et al.

Summary: The new cryo-EM structure of the ~1 MDa E. coli cellulose synthase macrocomplex reveals how cellulose biosynthesis and phosphoethanolamine modification are coupled to promote host-tissue adhesion. Through interactions between BcsA enzyme and BcsG subunit, the cellulose synthase machinery forms a complex molecular structure, providing detailed insights into cellulose synthesis.

The combined effect of food additive titanium dioxide and lipopolysaccharide on mouse intestinal barrier function after chronic exposure of titanium dioxide-contained feedstuffs

Yongliang Zhang et al.

Summary: Food-grade titanium dioxide nanoparticles have a certain impact on the intestinal epithelial structure, but do not affect intestinal barrier function. Co-exposure to TiO2 and LPS enhances intestinal barrier function without causing notable inflammatory responses, and there is an antagonistic effect between TiO2 NPs and LPS.
