Iron-activated bermudagrass-derived biochar for adsorption of aqueous sulfamethoxazole: Effects of iron impregnation ratio on biochar properties, adsorption, and regeneration

Shengquan Zeng et al.

Summary: This study focused on the effects of FeCl3 impregnation on the properties of biochars derived from bermudagrass, the adsorption of sulfamethoxazole onto the biochars, and the regeneration of spent biochars. The FeCl3 impregnation significantly enhanced the surface area, hydrophobicity, Fe content, and adsorption capacity of the biochars. Various adsorption mechanisms were identified between sulfamethoxazole and the FeCl3-activated biochars.

Identification of photodegradation product of organophosphorus pesticides and elucidation of transformation mechanism under simulated sunlight irradiation

Luning Lian et al.

Summary: This study found that photolysis can effectively degrade organophosphorus pesticides (OPs), with chlorpyrifos and dimethoate achieving high photodegradation efficiencies under specific conditions (pH 9, xenon lamp as light source). Through experimental and theoretical exploration, the photodegradation mechanisms of chlorpyrifos and dimethoate were revealed.

Facile preparation of multi-porous biochar from lotus biomass for methyl orange removal: Kinetics, isotherms, and regeneration studies

Yanrui Hou et al.

Summary: Biomass, such as lotus root, was used to produce N-doped biochar with high surface area and partial mesopores for efficient removal of methyl orange. The biochar exhibited high capacity, fast kinetic adsorption, and good fitting to pseudo-second order and Langmuir models, showing promising potential for large-scale production and application in wastewater treatment.

Synergistic effect of the cotton stalk and high-ash coal on gas production during co-pyrolysis/gasification

Panbo Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that the synergistic effect between cotton stalk and high-ash coal in copyrolysis/gasification processes can be enhanced by heating to 950 degrees Celsius to increase gas production. There is a linear relationship between the gas yield during copyrolysis and the mixing ratio of cotton stalk, indicating almost no interaction between the two. The addition of steam can enhance the catalytic effect of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals in cotton stalk during cogasification, while the synergistic effect is reduced as the blending ratio of cotton stalk increases.

Partial oxidation of phenolic wastewater using NaOH and Ni addition for hydrogen production and phenolics degradation in supercritical water

Huiwen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the partial oxidation of phenolic wastewater in supercritical water, showing that higher oxygen ratio favored the conversion of phenolics to gaseous products. Addition of NaOH and Ni catalyst improved hydrogen production efficiency, but a balance was observed due to the enhancement of hydrogenation and methanation reactions. The combined NaOH-Ni catalyst significantly enhanced organic pollutants removal and hydrogen gasification efficiency, providing valuable insights for future applications of supercritical water partial oxidation technology in wastewater treatment.
