Atrazine removal by peroxymonosulfate activated with magnetic CoFe alloy@N-doped graphitic carbon encapsulated in chitosan carbonized microspheres

Xiuping Sun et al.

Summary: The CoFe@NC/CCM catalyst was successfully synthesized and applied for atrazine removal using peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Through systematic investigations and characterization, it was found that the catalyst showed good performance in degrading refractory organics by activating PMS. This environmentally friendly and easy-to-recycle heterogeneous catalyst has the potential for practical applications in water treatment.

Synergistic chromium(VI) reduction and phenol oxidative degradation by FeS2/Fe0 and persulfate

Weichun Yang et al.

Summary: A stable and efficient redox system based on FeS2 sulfidated zero valent iron (FeS2/Fe-0) and persulfate (PS) was developed to synchronously remove Cr(VI) and phenol in wastewater. The system showed selective oxidation of phenol without re-oxidizing Cr(III), with the major reactive species being surface-bound Fe2+. The mechanisms involved accelerated phenol degradation through complexing with Cr(III) and corrosion of Fe-0 to regenerate Fe2+ for reducing Cr(VI) and oxidizing phenol.

Biotreatment potential of co-contaminants hexavalent chromium and polychlorinated biphenyls in industrial wastewater: Individual and simultaneous prospects

Muhammad Wahab Yasir et al.

Summary: The co-existence of PCBs and Cr(VI) in the environment due to industrial effluent has worsened pollution issues, impacting aquatic and terrestrial life. Strategies for simultaneous removal of these contaminants have not been sufficiently explored, and co-contamination may hinder bacteria's bioremediation efficiency. Bioaugmentation with metal-resistant bacteria and utilization of sorbents/biosurfactants are potential solutions for the detoxification of Cr(VI) and PCBs.

Chromium contamination and effect on environmental health and its remediation: A sustainable approaches

Shiv Prasad et al.

Summary: Chromium is a critical trace element for human health, but contamination, particularly in the form of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], has increased in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities. Excessive exposure to chromium can lead to toxic health effects in humans and animals, while pollution negatively affects plant metabolic activities, reducing crop quality. Monitoring and implementing remediation technologies is essential to balance the environment and nature.
