Constructed Co3O4-Sn3O4 hierarchical nanoflower-tree heterostructure with boosting photoelectrocatalytic efficiency for water decontamination

Ming Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a Co3O4-Sn3O4 hierarchical nanoflower-tree architecture was developed by adhering various amounts of Sn3O4 nanosheets to the surface of Co3O4 nanowires. The resulting Co3O4-Sn3O4-2.0 photoelectrodes exhibited superior PEC dye degradation efficiency due to large electrochemical activity, fast carrier transport, low electrochemical resistance, proper bandgap, high electron-hole separation efficiency, and electron-deficient surface. This hierarchical structure promotes the generation of intermediate active species, leading to enhanced PEC degradation rate and long-term stability.

Mesoporous ZnO nanosheets with rich surface oxygen vacancies for UV-activated methane gas sensing at room temperature

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: Mesoporous ZnO nanosheets with rich surface oxygen vacancies showed enhanced CH4 gas sensing properties under UV illumination, correlating to their improved photocatalytic oxidation activity induced by surface V-O. The generation of active centers and oxygen species was promoted by the rich surface V-O, as confirmed by in-situ electron paramagnetic resonance and O-2 temperature programmed desorption analysis. Additionally, density functional theory calculations suggested that V-O could enhance the surface charge density of ZnO and lower the Gibbs free energy for CH4 activation on the ZnO surface.
