Exposure of men and lactating women to environmental phenols, phthalates, and DINCH

Agneta A. Runkel et al.

Summary: This study assessed the exposure of Slovenian men and lactating primiparous women to phthalates, DINCH, and environmental phenols, finding significant differences by gender and geographical location. It was observed that urban or industrialized areas had higher levels of these chemicals, reflecting market trends. Calculation of hazard quotient values indicated a potential higher risk from the chemical mixture compared to individual compounds. Additional studies are needed to estimate exposure risks for susceptible populations like children.

Dietary intake and household exposures as predictors of urinary concentrations of high molecular weight phthalates and bisphenol A in a cohort of adolescents

Anna R. Smith et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between housing and dietary characteristics and the concentration of high-molecular-weight phthalate metabolites and BPA in Latina adolescents. The findings showed associations between living in a home with vinyl or linoleum flooring and higher urinary monobenzyl phthalate concentration, as well as between recent consumption of coffee and fast food with higher urinary mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate concentration. These results may help in targeting interventions to reduce phthalate uptake in young adults.

Organic contaminants of emerging concern in leachate of historic municipal landfills

Victoria R. Propp et al.

Summary: The study found various CECs in leachate of historic landfills, with some landfills having PFAS concentrations similar to modern landfills and elevated levels of certain substances increasing with landfill age, indicating historic landfills may be long-term sources of CECs to groundwater.

Multisystemic alterations in humans induced by bisphenol A and phthalates: Experimental, epidemiological and clinical studies reveal the need to change health policies

A. Martinez-Ibarra et al.

Summary: Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, as endocrine-disrupting chemicals, are widely distributed in the environment and can affect cellular proliferation, tissue development, and various physiological processes through interference with hormone synthesis and action. Exposure to these compounds is inevitable and unintentional for humans and living organisms, potentially leading to a wide range of chronic diseases later in life. Monitoring of EDC levels and their impact on human health is crucial for the general population and the healthcare system.

Exposure to environmental phenols and parabens, and relation to body mass index, eczema and respiratory outcomes in the Norwegian RHINESSA study

Hilde Kristin Vindenes et al.

Summary: The study investigated the associations between the use of personal care products and urine biomarker levels of phenols and parabens, as well as the potential impact on inflammatory diseases like allergies and overweight. The results showed correlations between several chemicals and conditions such as eczema, rhinitis, asthma, specific IgE, and body mass index.
