The Class II KNOX family members KNAT3 and KNAT7 redundantly participate in Arabidopsis seed coat mucilage biosynthesis

Yuanyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that Class II KNOX family genes KNAT3 and KNAT7 play a positive role in regulating mucilage biosynthesis in Arabidopsis seeds. The double mutant knat3knat7 showed defective production and formation of seed mucilage, while the single mutants showed normal or slightly disturbed phenotype. Furthermore, it was discovered that KNAT3 and KNAT7 act as positive regulators for the key mucilage biosynthetic gene MUM4.

Transport of UDP-rhamnose by URGT2, URGT4, and URGT6 modulates rhamnogalacturonan-I length

Susana Saez-Aguayo et al.

Summary: The biosynthesis of Rhamnogalacturonan-I involves transport of UDP-Rhamnose into the Golgi apparatus by URGT transporters. URGT2, URGT4, and URGT6 play distinct roles in mucilage biosynthesis, with URGT2 and URGT4 mainly involved in RG-I elongation and URGT6 affecting adherent mucilage. Mutants lacking all three transporters show changes in polymer chains and xylan production.
