Analysis of carbon flow at the metabolite level reveals that starch synthesis from hexose is a limiting factor in a high-yielding rice cultivar

Masaki Okamura et al.

Summary: The study investigated carbon flow in three high-yielding rice cultivars and found that in 'Momiroman', newly fixed carbon assimilates were stored as hexose instead of being converted to starch. Additionally, lower activity of ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase and lower expression of AGPS2b in 'Momiroman' grains may be the main reasons for slower starch synthesis and lower sink activity in this cultivar.

An integrated magnetic resonance plant imager for mobile use in greenhouse and field

Marco Meixner et al.

Summary: In this study, a mobile, integrated MR plant imager that can be handled by one person and used in the field was demonstrated. The device utilized a small and lightweight gradient amplifier, an open C-shaped permanent magnet, and multi-spin echo imaging with fast gradient switches to achieve high-resolution imaging under short T-2* conditions. Additionally, a small 3-channel gradient amplifier was constructed using conventional design, enabling the device to deliver 40A gradient pulses of >6 ms in duration.

A Mobile NMR Sensor and Relaxometric Method to Non-destructively Monitor Water and Dry Matter Content in Plants

Carel W. Windt et al.

Summary: Water content and dry matter content are essential parameters for describing plant growth and yield. Non-invasive detection using NMR relaxometry can accurately monitor these parameters, providing a continuous, quantitative, and non-invasive method to assess changes in plant water and dry matter content.

Sink Strength Maintenance Underlies Drought Tolerance in Common Bean

Amber Hageman et al.

Summary: Drought significantly decreases yield in common beans, with wild ancestors' inheritance traits potentially leading to yield losses in some cultivated lines. However, certain bred lines are able to maintain higher yields under drought by maintaining sink strength. Resource availability and seed filling rates play crucial roles in this process.
