Assessing the response of vegetation photosynthesis to meteorological drought across northern China

The use of combined soil moisture data to characterize agricultural drought conditions and the relationship among different drought types in China

Summary: Monitoring and assessing drought is crucial due to the costly damage it causes. This study evaluated the utility of combined satellite retrieved soil moisture products and the monthly scaled soil water deficit index in characterizing agricultural drought and investigating relationships among different types of drought. The results showed good performance of the drought index in detecting drought events and revealed the propagation time between meteorological, agricultural, and vegetation drought.

Characteristics of Propagation From Meteorological Drought to Hydrological Drought in the Pearl River Basin

Results showed that the PRB has experienced severe drought events since the early 2000s, with hydrological drought being more serious than meteorological drought. Factors such as precipitation, runoff, and climate oscillations play a significant role in the drought propagation time.

Propagation of meteorological to hydrological drought for different climate regions in China

Summary: The study investigated temporal changes of soil loss under different land use and land cover types in a small watershed in Almus, Turkey from 1990 to 2018. Results showed that changes in land use and cover had varying effects on erosion risk, with conversion of forests to agricultural lands increasing erosion risk, while increased mixed forest cover significantly decreased erosion risk.

A new Partial wavelet coherency (PWC) method has been developed to handle multiple excluding variables and provide phase information, showing improved performance in capturing bivariate relationships in geoscience after removing the effects of other variables.
