Insight into the organic matter degradation enhancement in the bioelectrochemically-assisted sludge treatment wetland: Transformation of the organic matter and microbial community evolution

Shutian Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a bioelectrochemical-assisted sludge treatment wetland (BE-STW) system was constructed to improve the degradation ability and efficiency of organic matter in sludge treatment wetlands. The results showed that bioelectrochemistry could further remove chemical oxygen demand, increase hydrolysis efficiency, and generate bioelectricity. This technology provides a new pathway to enhance the efficiency of traditional sludge treatment wetland systems.
