The variability in CO2 fluxes at different time scales in natural and reclaimed wetlands in the Yangtze River estuary and their key influencing factors

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: With the acceleration of global warming, studies on the carbon cycle and carbon sink capacity of estuarine wetlands have become increasingly important. By comparing reclaimed wetlands with natural wetlands, it was found that plant growth and carbon fixation are the main factors influencing carbon flux differences between the two.

Effects of reclamation methods and habitats on macrobenthic communities and ecological health in estuarine coastal wetlands

Yinying Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that opened reclamation areas had higher water salinity, higher number of species and abundance, and less disturbed habitat health status; vegetated regions were more suitable for the survival of macrobenthos and its habitat health status was more stable. Salinity, pH and larger soil particle diameter were positively associated with macrobenthic diversity, while total nitrogen and total phosphorus were negatively associated.

Pyrogenic conversion of rice straw and wood to biochar increases aromaticity and carbon accumulation in soil

Dinesh Kumar Benbi et al.

Summary: The study concludes that adding rice residue generated biochar into soil is more beneficial for soil biological processes and SOC stabilization than direct return of plant residue into the soil. Biochar addition promotes microbial growth, decreases microbial respiration, increases CUE, and helps in SOC accumulation.
