The chemical interaction between the neurotransmitter dopamine and the antipsychotic drugs olanzapine and quetiapine

Raphael P. Bacil et al.

Summary: This study observed the chemical interaction between olanzapine and quetiapine, antipsychotic drugs, with dopamine in phosphate buffer solutions at physiological pH. The reactions of both drugs with dopamine were found to be first-order, with proposed mechanism suggesting a chemical reaction occurs between piperazine and catechol moieties.

Mechanism and kinetics of olanzapine and quetiapine oxidations at glassy carbon electrode

Raphael P. Bacil et al.

Summary: The electrochemical oxidation mechanisms of the highly used anti-psychotic drugs olanzapine and quetiapine were systematically studied using cyclic voltammetry in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solutions at different pH values, providing important information on their reactivity, effect, and kinetic parameters. The study revealed four redox processes for olanzapine and quetiapine, involving proton coupled electron transfers and sequential oxidations at specific nitrogen positions, shedding light on their mechanisms of action.

Ru(terpy)-Based Conducting Polymer in Electrochemical Biosensing of Epinephrine

Francesca Meloni et al.

Summary: Ru(terpy)-based conducting polymers can be used to enhance selectivity and sensitivity in enzyme-based amperometric biosensors. Electrochemical polymerization of a heteroleptic [Ru(terpy)(2)](2+) complex enables the design of biosensors for the determination of epinephrine, with potential applications in pharmaceutical products. Analytical performances and kinetic parameters of enzymatic sensors containing Ru(terpy)-based conducting polymers were investigated, suggesting a promising application in pharmaceutical analysis.
