The motivation of this work was to develop a theoretical analysis for the transport and kinetics of substrate and product in PPO-based rotating disk bioelectrodes. The model is based on a nonlinear reaction-diffusion system containing a nonlinear term related to the CEC' mechanism. The hyperbolic function approach was used to solve the nonlinear coupled system of reaction-diffusion equations. Approximate analytical expressions for phenol, catechol, o-quinone concentrations, and current response were obtained for various diffusion and kinetic parameter values. The sensitivity and amplification factor of the bioelectrode towards phenol substrate were also studied in terms of rotation rate and enzyme layer thickness. Numerical solutions were obtained using Scilab/Matlab program, and a good agreement was observed between analytical and numerical results.
