Damage assessment of Bemisia tabaci and economic injury level on soybean

Guilherme Padilha et al.

Summary: The whitefly Bemisia tabaci has a significant impact on soybean yield, with each additional insect reducing yield. Based on the experimental data, an economic injury level is proposed for controlling this pest.

Detection of Bemisia tabaci Mediterranean cryptic species on soybean in Sao Paulo and Parana States (Brazil) and interaction of cowpea mild mottle virus with whiteflies

Vinicius Henrique Bello et al.

Summary: The study in Brazil found that MEAM1 was the predominant whitefly species in soybean fields, with MED detected in several places infesting soybean plants alone or together with MEAM1. MED was more efficient in transmitting CPMMV from bean to bean or from soybean to soybean, while MEAM1 was better at transmitting the virus from soybean to bean. Viruliferous MED and MEAM1 adults preferred settling on CPMMV-infected soybean plants, indicating potential challenges in whitefly management and an increase in virus incidence in soybean.
