Mono- and Dicationic DABCO/Quinuclidine Composed Nanomaterials for the Loading of Steroidal Drug: 32 Factorial Design and Physicochemical Characterization

Ana R. Fernandes et al.

Summary: Oil-in-water nanoemulsions (NEs) are a suitable nanotechnological approach to improve the bioavailability of lipophilic drugs in the eye, with cationic NEs showing potential for prolonged residence at the ocular surface and increased drug absorption through electrostatic interaction with mucins in the tear film. Newly synthesized quaternary derivatives of DABCO and quinuclidine surfactants have been screened to select the best compound for formulating stable NEs with optimal physicochemical properties for loading TA for ocular administration.

Essential Oil-Loaded NLC for Potential Intranasal Administration

Angela Bonaccorso et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) for intranasal delivery of essential oils, showing that NLC formulated with Lavandula or Rosmarinus exhibit more ordered structures and higher cytocompatibility with murine and human fibroblasts. These results suggest that positively charged NLC containing Lavandula or Rosmarinus could be a potential add-on strategy for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases through intranasal administration.
