Toyoncin, a Novel Leaderless Bacteriocin That Is Produced by Bacillus toyonensis XIN-YC13 and Specifically Targets B. cereus and Listeria monocytogenes

Juanjuan Wang et al.

Summary: We have identified a novel leaderless bacteriocin, toyoncin, produced by Bacillus toyonensis XIN-YC13. Toyoncin shows good pH and heat stability, and exhibits specific antimicrobial activity against B. cereus and L. monocytogenes by destroying their cell membrane integrity. The potential of toyoncin as a food preservative has been demonstrated through inhibition or elimination of B. cereus and L. monocytogenes in a milk model system.

A novel bacteriocin from Lactobacillus salivarius against Staphylococcus aureus: Isolation, purification, identification, antibacterial and antibiofilm activity

Hong-Wei Li et al.

Summary: The study identified a novel bacteriocin XJS01 with potential activity against foodborne Staphylococcus aureus. XJS01 exhibited low minimum inhibitory concentration and good resistance to heat treatment, leading to significant inhibition of both planktonic cells and biofilm formation of S. aureus. The bacteriocin impaired membrane permeability, caused cytoplasmic content leakage, and induced cell deformation in S. aureus.
