Development and application of metamaterial-based half-wave plates for the NIKA and NIKA2 polarimeters

G. Pisano et al.

Summary: Large field-of-view imaging and polarimetry instruments operating at millimetre and sub-millimetre wavelengths are crucial tools for understanding the role of magnetic fields in the formation of interstellar material and studying the physical conditions of Active Galactic Nuclei. The NIKA2 camera installed at the IRAM 30-m telescope is one of the best tools available for astronomers to produce intensity and polarimetry maps over large fields.

QUBIC I: Overview and science program

J. -Ch. Hamilton et al.

Summary: QUBIC is a novel polarimeter designed to measure the B-mode polarization of the CMB, addressing the challenge of observational cosmology. It combines the advantages of interferometry and bolometric detectors to control instrumental systematic effects and achieve wide-band sensitivity. This article provides an overview of the instrument design, calibration results, and scientific program, including measurements of both primordial B-modes and Galactic foregrounds. It also presents the forecast for typical observations, showing a statistical sensitivity of Sigma(r) = 0.015.

QUBIC V: Cryogenic system design and performance

S. Masi et al.

Summary: This study describes the design and experimental validation of the cryogenic system for the QUBIC experiment, which aims to measure the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). The system has a large volume and mass, and uses cryogenic detector arrays and cold optical systems to enhance mapping speed. After more than 6 months of continuous operation testing, the system has been proven to operate stably.

Summary: QUBIC is a ground-based experiment aiming to detect B-mode polarization anisotropies in the CMB. It mitigates the systematic errors of ground-based observations using the novel technique of bolometric interferometry, which combines the sensitivity of an imager with the error control of an interferometer.

QUBIC VII: The feedhorn-switch system of the technological demonstrator

F. Cavaliere et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design, manufacturing, and performance of the horn-switch system for the QUBIC technological demonstrator. The system, consisting of 64 dual-band corrugated feed-horns and mechanical switches, is used for selecting desired baselines during the instrument self-calibration. The electromagnetic performance of the feedhorns agrees with simulations, and the switches exhibit good return and insertion losses consistency and high isolation at 150 GHz.
