Electronic structure of defected polyethylene for Schottky emission

Giacomo Buccella et al.

Summary: Polyethylene is a commonly used solid state insulator in the electrical power industry, particularly for high-voltage cables. Aging of polyethylene under stress may lead to treeing, a phenomenon caused by gaseous defects. Treeing can eventually lead to breakdown of the insulating components, triggered by a series of partial discharges often related to the Schottky effect and chemical defects.

A time-filtering method for plasma simulation: High bulk conductivity

Andrea Villa et al.

Summary: This paper aims to simulate plasma-solid interaction in real insulating components using first-principle partial differential equations. A filtering method is applied to allow the use of larger time steps in simulating realistic components. The novel theoretical analysis shows that the filter does not affect the accuracy of the method, as supported by significant numerical experiments.
