Direct Numerical Simulation of Pore-Scale Trapping Events During Capillary-Dominated Two-Phase Flow in Porous Media

Mosayeb Shams et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the direct numerical simulation of imbibition in water-wet carbonate rocks and compares the simulation results with high-resolution synchrotron X-ray images. The research shows that complex porous media geometry can affect curvature balance and fluid snap-off. Pinned fluid-fluid-solid contact lines can lead to the snap-off of small ganglia on pore walls.
