Zhifeng Lin et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the multifactorial impact mechanisms on the photocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde, including humidity, concentration, and intermediate formate. Results show that the maximum photocatalytic reaction rate and degradation efficiency occur at 50% humidity. Increasing formaldehyde concentration enhances photocatalytic oxidation rate but decreases efficiency. Intermediate formate enhances adsorption and inhibits photocatalysis.

Double Z-scheme FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr ternary heterojunction photocatalyst for simultaneous photocatalytic removal of hexavalent chromium and rhodamine B

Auttaphon Chachvalvutikul et al.

Summary: The fabrication of heterojunction photocatalysts with appropriate band potentials is an effective method to enhance photocatalytic properties by inhibiting electron-hole pair recombination. In this study, BiOBr, Bi4O5Br2, and Binary BiOBr/Bi4O5Br2 composites were synthesized using microwave irradiation, followed by the fabrication of FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr ternary composites with different weight percentages of FeVO4 for photocatalytic applications. The 1%wt-FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr photocatalyst showed superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance, with improved Cr(VI) photoreduction and simultaneous degradation of RhB in a combined system. Adjusting pH values and catalyst dosages maximized the removal of Cr(VI) and RhB. The study proposed a double Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism with an RhB-sensitized effect, leading to significant enhancement in charge segregation and migration, and higher redox properties of the ternary composite, resulting in excellent photocatalytic activity.

Novel 2D/2D g-C3N4/Bi4NbO8Cl nano-composite for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of oxytetracycline under visible LED light irradiation

Ankush Majumdar et al.

Summary: A novel visible-light-responsive 2D/2D g-C3N4/Bi4NbO8Cl nano-composite photocatalyst was successfully synthesized and demonstrated high photocatalytic degradation efficiency towards oxytetracycline. The improved performance can be attributed to the formation of a type-II heterojunction, which enhances visible light absorption and reduces recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Additionally, the nano-composite exhibited good stability after multiple cycles of degradation experiments, showing potential for low-cost and energy-efficient environmental remediation applications.

Superior photo-Fenton activity towards chlortetracycline degradation over novel g-C3N4 nanosheets/schwertmannite nanocomposites with accelerated Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycling

Xing-Xing Qiao et al.

Summary: In this study, g-C3N4 nanosheets/schwertmannite (CNNS/SCH) nanocomposites were prepared to enhance the efficiency of heterogeneous Fenton reactions for chlortetracycline degradation. The nanocomposites exhibited superior catalytic activity and long-term stability, with hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen identified as the main active species contributing to the degradation of chlortetracycline. The combinational use of CNNS and SCH significantly promoted the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and the reduction of Fe(III) at surfaces, providing a new insight for the construction of highly efficient photo-Fenton catalysts for effective treatment of priority pollutants in wastewater.
