Open data and data sharing in articles about COVID-19 published in preprint servers medRxiv and bioRxiv

Josip Strcic et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the content of data availability statements (DAS) and the actual sharing of raw data in preprint articles about COVID-19. The findings revealed that not all the raw data mentioned in the preprints with data sharing statements were accessible. Therefore, it is important to educate researchers about the significance of data sharing and to require preprint servers to include data sharing statements on both the website and in the manuscript.

Trials number, funding support, and intervention type associated with IPDMA data retrieval: a cross-sectional study

Irene X. Y. Wu et al.

Summary: The study identified predictors for high data retrieval and reporting in IPDMA, including non-Cochrane reviews, IPDMA on nonpharmacological interventions, analyses of smaller numbers of RCTs, and having funding support. Only a small percentage of studies met all the PICO criteria, reported methods for assessing bias risk, mentioned IPD integrity, and presented detailed synthesis results, indicating room for improvement in reporting quality.

Evaluation of Data Sharing After Implementation of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Data Sharing Statement Requirement

Valentin Danchev et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the implementation of the ICMJE data sharing statement requirement in three leading medical journals, finding a significant gap between declared and actual sharing of clinical trial data, despite a high rate of data sharing declaration.

Data Sharing in Biomedical Sciences: A Systematic Review of Incentives

Thijs Devriendt et al.

Summary: This article reviews current and proposed incentive mechanisms for researchers in biomedical sciences, including coauthorship, data publication, citation, and alternative metrics. While these mechanisms have their strengths and weaknesses, more evidence is needed to assess their effectiveness in incentivizing data sharing and to identify any shortcomings.
