The methodological quality of 176,620 randomized controlled trials published between 1966 and 2018 reveals a positive trend but also an urgent need for improvement

Christiaan H. Vinkers et al.

Summary: The likelihood of bias in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) has decreased over the past decades as trial registration and CONSORT Statement reporting have increased. However, relatively high probabilities of bias still remain, particularly in journals with lower impact factors, emphasizing the continued need for improvement in RCT registration, conduct, and reporting.

EMA and FDA psychiatric drug trial guidelines: assessment of guideline development and trial design recommendations

Kim Boesen et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical research guidelines for psychiatric drug trials from the EMA and FDA, finding that there is more involvement from industry-related stakeholders in the guideline development process, while independent and non-conflicted stakeholders are underrepresented. The recommended trial designs tend to have limited generalizability, with important differences between the EMA and FDA guidelines, particularly in the exclusion of psychiatric comorbidity.
