Kinetic evaluation of mineral carbonation of natural silicate samples

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: Direct mineral carbonation is an effective technique for climate change mitigation, showing high carbonation efficiency for natural mineral samples under experimental conditions. Kinetic analysis indicates that the dissolution of olivine plays a key controlling role, while other silicate minerals and iron sulfides do not significantly participate.

Effects of oxygenated brackish water on germination and growth characteristics of wheat

Zhu Mengjie et al.

Summary: The study found that oxygenated brackish water with a dissolved oxygen level of 20 mg/L significantly promoted seed germination and seedling growth of spring wheat. It also improved soluble sugar and protein content in leaves while reducing proline content in the root zone soil. These results suggest that the oxygenation of brackish water with appropriate dissolved oxygen concentration can effectively alleviate salt stress and provide a safe and efficient method for brackish water utilization.

Reaction mechanisms of carbon dioxide capture by amino acid salt and desorption by heat or mineralization

Yiyi Li et al.

Summary: The study found that potassium glycine shows high efficiency in CO2 absorption, with 57% of bicarbonate/carbonate formation and 43% of carbamate formation. Mineralization desorption has higher CO2 desorption efficiency than thermal desorption, and the instability of carbamate under mineralization compared to heat is also observed.

How does temperature regulate anaerobic digestion?

Erqi Nie et al.

Summary: Temperature plays a crucial role in anaerobic digestion by shaping microbial ecosystems and regulating stability performance. While previous studies have discussed microbial responses to temperature changes, there is still a gap in understanding the regulation of temperature gradient on microbial communities. Adapting microorganisms to extreme temperatures could open up possibilities for industrial applications and sanitation purposes.

Simultaneous CO2 absorption, mineralisation and carbonate crystallisation promoted by amines in a single process

Long Ji et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the CO2 absorption, mineralisation, and carbonate crystallisation at different concentrations and temperatures of MEA and Ca(OH)2, as well as different amine types. The experiments demonstrated that increased concentrations of MEA and Ca(OH)2 can affect both CO2 absorption and the crystal sizes and shapes of CaCO3 products. Piperazine (PZ) was identified as the most effective promotor under optimized conditions, showing high purity of CaCO3 products, efficient CO2 removal, diverse crystal sizes and shapes, and minimal amine loss.

Insights into dual functions of amino acid salts as CO2 carriers and CaCO3 regulators for integrated CO2 absorption and mineralisation

Xuan Zheng et al.

Summary: Integrated CO2 absorption and mineralisation technology using green solvent amino acid salts (AAS) showed better performance in CO2 absorption and formation of CaCO3 compared to traditional alkanolamines. Potassium L-argininate stood out as an effective crystal morphology regulator, while ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) had a notable influence on controlling the polymorph of CaCO3. Further investigation is needed to clarify the effect of EDTA on the CO2 absorption step.
