Efficiency of fishmeal and fish oil processing of different pelagic fish species: Identification of processing steps for potential optimization toward protein production for human consumption

Summary: Most fish meal and fish oil facilities use outdated processes to produce low-value products, but there is a need for optimization and redesign to improve product quality. This study analyzed lipid quality and water content in processing steps, aiming to shift traditional production to higher-quality products for human consumption. The results serve as reference values for producers to assess and improve their own production processes.
