Seed assisted in-situ synthesis of porous anorthite/mullite whisker ceramics by foam-freeze casting

Linghao Wu et al.

Summary: Porous anorthite/mullite whisker ceramics with high strength and low thermal conductivity were successfully prepared through a combination of seed-assisted in situ synthesis and foam-freeze casting techniques. The materials exhibited a high apparent porosity, low bulk density, high compressive strength, and low thermal conductivity, making them suitable for thermal insulating applications.

Incorporating essential oils or compounds derived thereof into edible coatings: Effect on quality and shelf life of fresh/fresh-cut produce

Basharat Yousuf et al.

Summary: Incorporating essential oils into edible coatings can have positive effects on reducing microbial load and acting as antioxidants for fresh/fresh-cut fruits and vegetables. However, challenges such as high reactivity and safety concerns still exist in using essential oils in edible coatings.

Utilizing gold mine tailings to produce sintered bricks

Zuoan Wei et al.

Summary: Limited recycling options and large stockpiles of gold tailings can lead to social and environmental issues, which can be alleviated through recycling. This study investigated the possibility of producing sintered bricks from gold mine tailings, with optimized process parameters found to be crucial for the properties of the bricks. Clay content, forming moisture, and sintering parameters were all found to have different correlations with the properties of the sintered bricks.

Regeneration of spent bleaching earth and conversion of recovered oil to biodiesel

Jamil Naser et al.

Summary: This study investigates the regeneration and utilization of spent bleaching earth (SBE) generated by the vegetable oil refining industry. The results show that methanol-extracted regenerated bleaching earth exhibits superior bleaching property, while n-hexane extracted oil produces more fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) during biodiesel production. Therefore, the choice of solvent depends on the intended application.
