Nonadiabatic Excited-State Molecular Dynamics Methodologies: Comparison and Convergence

Victor M. Freixas et al.

Summary: This study compares three popular methods for large chromophores: Ehrenfest, surface hopping, and multiconfigurational Ehrenfest with ab initio multiple cloning (MCE-AIMC). The comparisons reveal method performance for population relaxation and coherent vibronic dynamics. The numerical convergence of MCE-AIMC algorithms is also studied to provide helpful reference data for selecting an optimal methodology for simulating excited-state molecular dynamics.

Branching and phase corrected surface hopping: A benchmark of nonadiabatic dynamics in multilevel systems

Cancan Shao et al.

Summary: In this study, branching and phase corrections are extended to multilevel systems and combined with traditional fewest switches surface hopping and global flux surface hopping algorithms. The results show that both FSSH and GFSH with these corrections produce excellent and nearly identical results in all investigated systems, demonstrating robustness in describing multilevel problems and high reliability. Additionally, the branching correction is found to be particularly important for strongly repulsive potential energy surfaces, indicating potential for general applications.
