Sex Pheromone of the Click Beetle Agriotes pilosellus (Schonherr, 1718)

Till Tolasch et al.

Summary: Geranyl butanoate and (E)-8-hydroxygeranyl dibutanoate were identified as the sex pheromone of Agriotes pilosellus, attracting males to traps. Field experiments showed that the attraction could be enhanced by almost ten times by adding (E)-8-hydroxygeranyl dibutanoate.

Limoniic Acid-Major Component of the Sex Pheromones of the Click Beetles Limonius canus and L. californicus

Regine Gries et al.

Summary: This study identified the female-produced sex pheromones of Pacific Coast wireworm and sugarbeet wireworm, and demonstrated that traps baited with synthetic limoniic acid were effective in capturing male Limonius click beetles. The findings suggest that limoniic acid could potentially be developed for detection, monitoring, and control of these wireworm populations.

Limoniic Acid and Its Analog asTrap Lures for Pest Limonius Species (Coleoptera: Elateridae) in North America

Willem G. van Herk et al.

Summary: Four species of Limonius wireworms are serious crop pests in North America, with the sex pheromone component limoniic acid showing broad attractiveness to the species and no deterrent effect on other click beetle species. This may facilitate the development of generic pheromone-based monitoring tools for multiple click beetle species.
