High-Pressure Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

Miquel Salmeron et al.

Summary: Recent studies on surface structures of crystalline materials in the presence of gases have highlighted the importance of high/ambient pressure and temperature in driving surface adaptations and forming new structures. The emergence of a new era in surface science has been fueled by advancements in characterization techniques, particularly high-pressure scanning tunneling microscopy, enabling the intense scrutiny of important surfaces like transition metals, oxides, and alloys.

Near Ambient-Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of CO Activation and Hydrogenation on Co(0001)

Peng Chai et al.

Summary: This study reported an in situ NAP-XPS investigation of CO activation and hydrogenation on a Co(0001) surface, revealing distinct changes in CO coverage and decomposition under different temperatures and atmospheres. These results contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in Co-catalyzed FTS reactions.

Method for the Manual Analysis of Moire Structures in STM images

Sebastian Guenther et al.

Summary: The method presented manual determination of lattice parameters of commensurate hexagonal moire structures resolved by STM through analysis of the Fourier transform of an STM image. By using the cell augmentation method and algebra, six possible moire structures can be identified. When the orientation and lattice constant of the substrate are roughly known, this information is usually sufficient to determine a unique moire structure and its lattice parameters.
